Their story

André Bauchant was a French naive painter whose compositions were often inspired by mythology and classical history. Author of mythological and historical paintings, he painted landscapes of naive character and rich color. Commissioned by Diágilev, he made the sets and figurines for Igor Stravinsky's Apollo Musageta in 1928. He initially worked as a market gardener, for his father, before serving in the First World War. He later worked as a map-maker, before turning to a career as an artist.
