Their story

Eleuterio Fernández Huidobro, born March 14, 1942 in Montevideo and died August 5, 2016 in the same city, nicknamed El Ñato, is a former leader of the Tupamaros, he was also a Uruguayan senator until his death on August 5, 2016. Elected for the first time in 1999 on the lists of the Popular Participation Movement (MPP), belonging to the Broad Front, he was re-elected in 2004 and again in 2009, but this last time on the list of the Current of Action and Thought - Freedom (CAP-L), which is also part of the Broad Front coalition. Since October 2007, he has been on leave from the National Liberation Movement - Tupamaros (MLN-T). He served as Minister of National Defense during the presidency of José Mujica and the second presidency of Tabaré Vázquez. He died in the line of duty.
