Their story
Emilie Paličková-Mildeová, christened Emilie Josefa, was a Czech textile artist, lacemaker and teacher. Her greatest contribution was in liberating lace from the traditional framework of ornamental schemes. In 1925, she won the Grand Prix and a gold medal at the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Art in Paris. She also created the curtains for the presidential bed of the National Theatre. In the years 1946–1959, she led the master lace studio at the VŠUP.
