Their story
Florestan Fernandes was a Brazilian sociologist, ethnologist, intellectual and politician, patron of Brazilian sociology under law nº 11 325. He was one of the most influential Brazilian intellectuals of the 20th century, with notable contributions to the study of racism, human rights and social inequality in the country. With a Marxist orientation, his work is considered the starting point of Brazilian critical sociology. Auditoriums, schools, student centers and libraries, such as the University of São Paulo, and several public buildings were named in his name.
