Their story
Grover Mitchell was an American jazz trombonist. In 1961 he worked briefly in Duke Ellington's orchestra and subsequently with Lionel Hampton. From 1962 he worked in Count Basie's orchestra, from which he left in 1970, but returned again ten years later. He remained in the orchestra after Basie's death and in 1995 took over from Frank Foster as its leader. During his career, he also collaborated with other musicians, including Gene Ammons, Oliver Nelson, Sarah Vaughan and Eddie Harris. He died of cancer at the age of seventy-three.
