Herbert José de Souza, born November 3, 1935 in Bocaiúva (Brazil) and died August 9, 1997 in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), better known under the nickname Betinho, was a Brazilian sociologist and political activist. He actively fought against the Brazilian military dictatorship, for agrarian reform, for the rights of people suffering from the AIDS virus, and against hunger and poverty.
