Their story
Jacinto Jijón y Caamaño was a prominent Ecuadorian aristocrat, historian, archaeologist, art collector and politician, born in Quito into an influential family. Under the mentorship of archbishop and archaeologist Federico González Suárez, he dedicated much of his fortune and effort to scientific research, founding the Ecuadorian Society for American Historical Studies and financing expeditions that laid the foundations of modern archeology in Ecuador.
