Jan Marius Tomeš was a poet, essayist, art historian, art theorist, translator. He belonged to the interwar generation of poets who entered literature at the turn of the 1930s and 1940s. His closest friends included his contemporaries Jiří Orten, Ivan Blatný, Josef Kainar, Kamil Bednář and others.
