Their story
Joseph Frederick Whiteaves was an English paleontologist. He began his studies in schools in England and specialized in geology and paleontology at Oxford. In 1861 he visited Lower Canada and the following year left for Montreal, where he settled for a position with the Natural History Society. He was noted for his research into Canada's fossil and living fauna and received awards for his work. He was one of the founding members of the Royal Society of Canada.
