Professor Karel Novák was a Czech photographer and professional photography teacher. In his time, he was one of the most important personalities of the beginnings of artistic photography. He ranks among the pioneers of portrait photography of his time, such as Jozef Božetech Klemens, Bedřich Anděl, Jindřich Eckert, František Fridrich, Jan Nepomuk Langhans, Eduard Kozič, Karol Divald, Alfons Mucha, Vladimír Jindřich Bufka, Wilhelm Horn or Josef Anton Trčka.
