Kary Banks Mullis ['mʌlɪs] was an American biochemist. In 1993 he shared the Nobel Prize in Chemistry with Michael Smith for the development of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). PCR quickly developed into one of the most important methods in modern molecular biology.
