Their story
Friedrich Otto Kurt Kluge was a German sculptor and ore caster who came to public attention as a humorous writer at the age of 48 and published several well-received and sometimes award-winning novels and stories in the last years of his life during the Nazi era. Kluge died of heart failure in 1940 during a tour of the front organized by the Reich Propaganda Ministry. His novel The Magic Violin, completed in the same year, was made into a film during the Second World War. His most successful and by far best-known novel, Der Herr Kortüm (1938), was still read after 1945.
