Their story
Luis Antonio Eguiguren Escudero was a Peruvian lawyer, magistrate, historian, journalist, writer and politician. He was director of the General Archive of the Nation (1914), Regidor of Lima (1914-1920), Mayor of Lima (1930), President of the Constituent Congress (1931-1932), founder and leader of the Social Democratic Party. He obtained victory in the presidential elections of 1936, but this election was ignored by the Congress of the Republic and the then President Óscar R. Benavides, alleging that he had won with APRA votes. He presided over the Supreme Court and the Judiciary in 1953 and 1954. Luis A. Eguiguren is the only Peruvian who has democratically presided over the three branches of government, the constituent congress, the supreme court and the Presidency of the Republic, although in a frustrated manner.
