Their story
Marie Tharp was an American geologist and cartographer. Their special achievement lies above all in the cartographic representation of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and their discovery of the rift valley located therein in 1952 and the later mapping of the other mid-ocean ridges, which was of great importance for the further development and confirmation of the theories of continental drift and plate tectonics.
