Plácido Manaia Nunes

Plácido Manaia Nunes was a Brazilian journalist, creator of the Imprensa Trophy, which aims to reward actors, actresses and singers who stood out in the artistic world, on television and in music during the year. The award event took place annually at the Sílvio Santos Program, where Plácido served as one of the judges. Previously, Plácido was also director of São Paulo na TV magazine, one of the first publications about the artistic world. In the 1970s, Plácido, already a well-known person behind the scenes in show business, acquired the magazine Melodias, an important publication at the time that was facing financial difficulties. It was as editor of Melodias that Plácido arranged with Sílvio Santos to publish a report on his hypothetical baldness. The edition featured a crude photomontage of the bald Sílvio on the cover and, as predicted, it quickly sold out on newsstands.
