Their story
Ricarda Schwerin was a German-Israeli photographer. She was trained at the Bauhaus in Dessau from 1930. After the National Socialists came to power, she had to flee Germany and lived in Palestine from 1935. Here she and her husband Heinz Schwerin made toys that were presented at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1937. Since the mid-1950s she worked again in a photo studio in Jerusalem, illustrated children's books and portrayed numerous politicians and personalities in the country. She is the mother of the Israeli historian Tom Segev and the former Bundestag member Jutta Oesterle-Schwerin.
