Their story

Takeshi Onaga (翁長 雄志, Onaga Takeshi), born October 2, 1950 in Naha and died August 8, 2018 in Urasoe, is a Japanese politician. Municipal councilor of Naha from 1985 to 1992, member of the Okinawa Prefectural Assembly from 1992 to 1996 and mayor of Naha from 2000 to 2014, he was elected governor of Okinawa prefecture in 2014 as an independent. His mandate is marked by his opposition to the presence of American military bases in the archipelago. He died in office in 2018 and Okinawa Third District Representative Denny Tamaki replaced him after a by-election.
