Their story
Theodore Meir Bikel was an American folk singer and actor of Austrian origin. Bikel's career began in 1951 with a supporting role in the classic film African Queen. He performed at the Newport Folk Festival in 1960. In 1977 he was admitted to the National Council for the Arts. Born in Austria, he lived in Israel, England and the United States and spoke six languages. Bikel was vice president of the American Jewish Congress.
