Their story
Tomasz Ludwik Stańko was a Polish jazz musician. Stańko was one of the outstanding jazz musicians in Europe. On the trumpet he has developed a completely unique sound in all registers, which Hans Kumpf characterized as “rough and heartfelt”. Because of his dark, enigmatic tone, he was also known as the “Edgar Allan Poe of the trumpet.” He belongs to the first generation of European musicians who sought and found new possibilities for their own musical expression in response to American free jazz.
