Their story
Václav Vlček was a Czech writer, journalist, playwright and poet. From 1870 until the end of his life, he edited the review Osvěta, in which he published a number of literary works and popular scientific articles by more than a hundred important and budding Czech authors; the magazine was highly appreciated and popular in patriotic circles. In his own work, he concentrated on short stories, novels and dramas drawing on history and contemporary themes. He wrote in an idealized realistic style, he tried to cultivate the taste and raise the morale of the readers in the national spirit. His historical short stories were followed up by Václav Beneš Třebízský and Alois Jirásek.
