Vladimir Dudintsev

Vladimir Dimitrievich Doudintsev born July 29, 1918 in Kupiansk, and died July 23, 1998 in Moscow (Russia), is a Russian-speaking Soviet writer best known for his novel Man Does Not Live on Bread Alone, published in Moscow in 1956 at the time of the Khrushchev thaw. The publication of this work by Novy Mir was an important milestone in the de-Stalinization of the cultural and political life of the Soviet Union and gave rise to passionate discussions. From the following cold, Doudinstev was the victim of prolonged ostracism which almost prevented him from publishing until the period of perestroika, when he published The White Roses which enjoyed great success in the USSR.
